I’ve had a few books on my shelf FOREVER that I have needed to review. Once upon a time I used to review for BookSneeze and found that I didn’t have enough time to devote to writing reviews even when I liked the books. I am cleaning house: bookshelves and blog drafted posts. It’s probably about time to clean out the cobwebs and post some of these long-overdue reviews. Here we go…
So book one from my backlog is “How to Reach Your Full Potential for God” from Pastor Charles Stanley. I wanted to like this book because I respect the wisdom of Pastor Stanley, however I just could not get in to his writing style. It is purely inspirational. Most of the material I have read before from many, many other authors. There wasn’t anything new in this book that hasn’t been said before.
In my opinion…
If you want to know what you were created for… read scripture.
If you want to know God’s great plan and design for you… read the Bible.
If you are confused about how you fit in the grand scheme… read the Bible. ask God. and pray. find some friends to pray over you.
This book while disappointing because I am an avid reader might benefit someone who has genuine questions about their own potential and is need of a simple, reassuring word for the moment. It is not going to fry your brains with deep theological ponderings. The text is simple, well-stated and direct. Many readers might enjoy it – it just was not my particular cup of tea.
Here is what the publisher had to say:
How to Reach Your Full Potential for God, acclaimed pastor and speaker Charles Stanley connects readers with the plan and purpose God envisioned when He created them.
“Things are never going to change” or “This is just the way I am–I’m never going to get better” are just a few of the damaging lies Christians believe about themselves, their situations, and their walk. But Dr. Stanley shares the real truth as God sees it.
In this powerful and inspiring message, readers reconnect with the grand vision God had when He uniquely created them. They learn that regardless of setbacks, failures, and frustrations, there is a better path based in His Word, one that’s full of freedom and purpose. This book takes them to their specifically designed path to become exactly who the Father made them to be and achieve exactly what He designed them for.
I give this book ** out of 5 stars.
