Bible in 90 Days | Day 50 {Check in #7}

Posted on Feb 20, 2012

Day 50. How are you, my friends? Are you keeping up? What are you finding in your readings that hasn’t left you? What themes stay close? Is there something that seems to be following you everywhere?

When you find at every turn a word or phrase that speaks not just on these pages, but again in the world around you, Pay Attention.

“In the year that the commander came to Ashdod, when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him and he fought against Ashdod and captured it, at that time the LORD spoke through Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, ‘God and loosen the sackcloth from your hips and take your shoes off your feet.’ And he did so, going naked and barefoot. And the LORD said, ‘Even as My servant Isaiah has gone naked and barefoot three years as a sign and token…” [Isaiah 20:1-3]

I love the book of Isaiah. The symbols and imagery, the oracles and signs of this man’s life – that God used to tell what would come, to demonstrate in tangible ways what they would walk and who had ordained it.

“…Three years as a sign and token…” Something about this speaks straight into parts of me.

Remember to leave a comment letting us know how you are doing. We have had a number of folks drop out, even more who are feeling desperately behind and those who are diligently staying with the group. If there is anything I can do to help you catch up…

  1. Just starting Isaiah here. Using a different version than I am used to and loving that!

    • Me too! Using both NIV and NIV1984 which is WAYYY different from NKJV and KJV – that’s what I cut my teeth on! Sometimes I find myself pausing at vaguely familiar passages in Psalms and looking at them in the (N)KJV because they render better (or are more familiar, varies). But still, it’s wonderful that they a) agree on soooo much and b) the NIV is a lot more comfortable read at the pace of a sustained gallop!

      Press on soldier!

  2. Way behind! Am working a temporary job for another week, and this first week was very intense with everything going on. I plan to begin reading what is assigned for each day going forward and at the same time read as much as I can of what I have missed to that I can get caught up.

  3. Right on schedule! : )

  4. I’m reading right on schedule! I’m loving the challenge and enjoying keeping up! :)

  5. Checking in! I am still behind, but reading ahead every day in order to get caught up.

  6. I’m still on target—and praying to stay that way! Feeling a little overwhelmed with this week’s to-do list!

  7. Still behind but reading on, not gonne give up…

    • Lynn, I know what you mean and I’m with you! NOT gonna give up!! Come too far…

  8. I was sick all last week and used that as an excuse not to read. But, as soon as I picked up my Bible on Friday night, God blessed me with a great passage. Proverbs and Ecclesiastes are an easy read. I’m just starting Isaiah. It amazes me that I am not the only person to go through some rough times. I’m not even the first one! God has helped some of the most influential people in biblical history make it through some rough patches. Surely he can help me too!

    • Praying that you’re better and glad you’re continuing your press. I have much to catch up on. Keep up the God work!!

  9. I just realized that I haven’t been checking in! I’m so sorry! Life has been more than hectic…I’m behind again but still reading!!

  10. Here and accounted for! Have fallen, but I CAN get up, and will! Approx 7 days behind, but am willing to make the press (Oh Lord, the spirit is willing but the flesh…). Prayers requested! Thanking God for the journey and for having you as running mates! Let us press onward to victory!

  11. Still reading – thanks for the encouragement.

  12. On Monday I was three days behind but today I am caught up. :)
